A1 Speedworld - Austria
Rotax European Championship - Round 3
The heat was unbearable for the 3rd round of the European championship with temperatures reaching 41 degrees at the A1 speed world in Austria. Jack went into the 3rd round of the championship 3rd on dropped rounds in the championship looking to improve on his position.
Qualifying - After 3 days solid testing, qualifying arrived and Jack expected to be challenging at the font of the grid but by the end of the session Jack could only manage to pull out a 45:18 leaving him 10th on the grid alongside the Australian driver Steel Guiliana 3 tenths off Ben Cooper who poled it.
Heat 1 – Jack didn’t have the best of starts and dropped down to 11th with team mate Sam Tordoff slipping up the inside of him into the first corner and as the raced progressed Jack found himself with a great lack of power and only just able to hold on to the top 8 eventually finishing 8th.
Heat 2 – Jack got off to a decent start and held his position into the first corner and passed Arnold Nevling into the hairpin and ended up having a great battle with the Australian Steel Guiliana with them both 2 a breast through the esses with Steel off on the grass but somehow managing to not lose much time! But as the race progressed Jacks engine problems started to get worse and worse and by Lap 7 Jack was nearly 7tenths off the pace and going backwards rapidly but just managing to hang on to 9th position.
Heat 3 – After changing nearly everything that could have caused the engine to be down on power, it was time for the final heat of the day and Jack had his worst start of the day dropping to 12th after the fist corner but once they got going Jack had solved his engine gremlins and was starting to move back up the field again having a good battle with the Australian and Jack just piped him for
8th.
Pre Final – 7th on the grid for the final after some very average heats and for the first time all weekend Jack made a half decent start and managed to get up to 6th after the first corner but it was short lived as Arnold Nevling dived up the inside of Jack into the first hairpin as well as Steel Guiliana and another driver making there way past leaving Jack in 10th position and with a lot of work to do. But the kart and engine were working superbly and Jack drove hard to a well deserved 5th setting himself up nicely for what should have been an interesting final.
Final – Starting 5th the grid after a very promising problem and Jack was straight up to 3rd after the first lap but something wasn’t quite right and Jack was struggling to match the times from the pre final and slowly but surely he dropped back to an eventual 5th position.
Jack goes into the final round of the championship in 2nd place 15 points behind the leader Ben Cooper a top 3 is in sight but you never no what might happen at the final round but I guess we will find out in GENK!!!!!!
