Clay Pigeon Super1 Shakedown
26th February 2006
Heat1 - 44 Junior Max driver were racing at the Clay Shakedown which was
sure to make for some interesting racing.
Jack started 6th on the grid for the first heat of the day and after 2 false starts and one very bad accident (one which Jack was heavily involved in) the race was suspended and a drivers briefing was
called.
The Accident
Eventually the race got underway and Jack made a decent start
jumping up into 5th through the first corner. Jack then managed to
take 4th place away from Josh Slade. Jack was suffering from a bent
rear axle though and was 3 tenths off the fastest lap meaning he had
to settle for 4th, just managing to hold off number 6 David Sutton.
Heat2 - There wasn’t long before the 2nd heat and with little time
to change the rear axle Jack couldn’t get down to the grid in time
meaning he would have to start last for the heat. With his work cut
out from 26th on the grid Jack made a decent start and quickly started
to make his way through the field eventually finishing a creditable 13th.
Heat3 - 13th on the grid for the last heat of the day and Jack was shunted
off at the first corner dropping him to last place. From then on Jack
struggled to make an impact on the race and finished a disappointing 17th.
A Final - After some disappointing heats Jack lined up 17th for the A final.
Jack got a great start and after the first lap was up to 10th, Jack quickly
made his way up to 8th position and then caught number 25 Jamie Little
moving himself up to 7th. From then on though Jack struggled with a lack
of top end power and couldn’t make an impact on the leading bunch.
An average final rounded off a poor weekend with Jack finishing 7 out of the 44 overall.
Jack now looks forward to the first round of Junior Rotax European
Championship in Salbris, France
