BRDC Stars of Tomorrow Round 5
Silverstone - 24th June 2006
|
Heat 1 – Jack started the first heat of the day from 17th on the grid and was quickly into 14th after the first lap. Jack got the hammer down and started to put in some very quick laps as he charged through the field to eventually finish a solid 3rd just behind Daniel Lloyd and Amanda Lassu.
Heat 2 – On Grid 4 for the second heat of the day and Jack got a decent start and was up to 3rd after the first lap. Jack quickly made his way past Scott Jackson and then past Lassu to take the lead. But as Jack went into the closing 4 laps his tyres started to go off and Lassu and David Sutton managed to sneak past to demote Jack to 3rd.
Heat 3 – Jack started in the middle of the grid for the final heat of the day and made a decent start as he exited the first corner in 11th position. Jack quickly made his way through the pack and eventually finished 5th behind Daniel Payne meaning he would start the final from 3rd on the grid.
Final – After a good set of heats Jack felt he could do something in the final although he was still not satisfied with the engine and gearing setup. Jack had a terrible start as he fell back to 5th after the first corner. But wit in a lap he was back to 3rd and looking for a way past Lassu in to 2nd. As it happened Jack made his move on lap 4 and was now concentrating on catching he leader David Sutton. But as Jack entered the ominous first chicane he misjudged his exit speed and understeared wide on to the exit curbs and bent his rear axle and dropped a chain forcing him to retire from the race. This left championship rival David Sutton a present and he has extended his lead at the top of the championship table.
“I’m very disappointed in myself for making the error which could cost me dearly in the championship. We had changed a few things for the final and I found I had a little bit of understear exiting some of the faster corners. I should have anticipated this but I was pushing so hard that I made the mistake and this track is very unforgiving when you make a mistake. I’m extremely disappointed but I will try learn from my mistake and put things right in future races.”
