BRDC Stars of Tomorrow Round 9

Genk, Belgium - 19th August 2006

The BRDC Stars of tomorrow championship moved on to its foreign leg in Genk, Belgium. Jack looked to round off his championship by making sure he secured 2nd place in the standings and to get one over championship leader David Sutton.

Heat 1 – Jack started 5th on the grid for the first heat of the day but got a disastrous start as he got pushed wide at the first two hairpins and fell back to 11th. But after a couple of laps Jack started to rapidly move through the field eventually coming home in a decent 4th place.

Heat 2 – On grid 13 for the second heat of the day and Jack made no mistakes at the start of this race as he quickly moved up to 5th after the first lap. With 3 laps to go Jack was now up to 2nd and closing in on the leader. As they went into the last lap Jack was now right behind Stephenson but in turn Jack was now under pressure from Sutton. Jack settled for 2nd just managing to hold off Sutton.

Heat 3 – Jack started the final heat of the day from 10th on the grid and made another good start and was quickly up into 2nd after two laps. By lap 3 he had caught and passed the leader Robert Gilmour. From then on Jack controlled the race and went on to take the win in front of Devon Modell.

Final – After a good set of heats Jack qualified on pole for the final alongside David Sutton and directly in front of Devon Modell. Jack made the perfect start and quickly started to turn the fast laps in. After 5 laps 2nd placeman David Sutton started to reel Jack back in. But at only 1 tenth a lap it was always going to be close. As the pair went into the final lap Jack still held the lead from Sutton. Despite a last gasp effort to take the lead at the infield hairpin from David. Jack managed to hold on to take a superb win.

“ I knew that the race would be won in the first 6 laps and I new that I would be very quick in this period. After about 5 laps I new David was behind me and knew all I had to do was keep a cool head. It got a bit a close on the last lap but it was a great feeling to take the win”.
