Super 1 British Championship - Round 2

Warden Law

28th May 2006

After the cruel look that ruled Jack out of what could have been his first International win at last weeks European Max championships in Italy, Jack was now looking forward to the second round of the British championship where he looked to build on his 2nd place at the first round. But Jack was struggling in the test sessions to get used to the slippery Warden Law track after the very hot track temperatures and lots of grip in Italy the week before.

Qualifying - When qualifying arrived Jack was still struggling with the limited amount of grip and was still not happy with the balance of the kart but qualifying wasn’t too bad as he managed to qualify 5th in his group putting him 11th overall.

Heat 1 – Starting 6th on the grid for the first heat of the day and Jack made a solid start and jumped straight into 5th after the first lap. By the second lap Jack was now passed Greg Harper and was chasing down the front 3 of Whelan, Lassu and Luke Varley. As the top3 swept into the last lap Jack was now with them but didn’t quite have enough to move himself further up the grid and finished a solid 4th.

Heat 2 – After an average start to the day Jack started on grid 18 and quickly made his way up into the top 15 but soon got stuck behind Harry Drysdale who was defending very hard. All though Jack tried on several occasions he failed to get passed and on one of those attempts lost his nose cone meaning he would have to retire from the race which resulted in a DNF which really was going to hurt his chances of doing anything in the final.

Heat 3 – After the disappointment of heat 3 Jack hoped to get things moving again as he started on grid 12 for the final heat. Jack quickly made his way into the top 10 and was now really on a charge as he picked off the drivers in front before finding himself in 5th place. Jack was now chasing down the top 4 and made no mistake in passing Rupert Svenson-cook for 4th. As they went into the last lap Jack made his way past another driver and was now in 3rd but couldn’t quite grab the win and had to settle for a decent 3rd position.

Final – Two good heats and one disastrous heat meant Jack would start on grid 12 for the final but after some promising pace in the heats Jack hoped to come through the field and make up some positions. But it wasn’t to be Jack’s day, problems with the kart left Jack struggling for pace and he eventually finishing a very disappointing 13th overall.

After that result Jack has now slipped back down to 8th in the championship but with 3 rounds still to go and with only 4 of the 5 rounds to count everything is still to play for and the title race is still wide open.
