Whilton Mill - January 29th 2006

Jack made his second appearance of the year at the Whilton Mill Circuit near Coventry. This was the first time Jack had visited the circuit, which he was very impressed with.

Heat 1 – 24th on the Grid for the first heat of the day and with a damp track all drivers were on wet tyres. Jack made a decent start and was progressing through the field very quickly and by the fourth lap he was up to 11th. But as the race came into the closing stages Jacks wet tyres started to overheat and Jack fell back to 15th position. Not the start Jack wanted.

Heat 2 – Starting 6th on the grid for the second heat and Jack held on to 6th position into the first corner and started making time on the drivers ahead. He had made his way up to 3rd place by the start of the last lap and was right behind the leaders. Then half way round the last lap Jack managed to squeeze up the inside of the second place man and finish a very close 2nd to the winner.

Heat 3 – 13th on the grid of the final heat and Jack made a poor start this time dropping back to 15th by the end of the first lap. But after some close racing Jack managed to bring it home in 5th place giving him fourth place on the grid for the start of the final.

Final – After some average heats Jack started 4th in the final but had a disastrous start dropping back down to 7th place by the end of the first 2 laps. Jack started to make his way through the field quite quickly and was into 3rd by the end of the seventh lap and was closing in on the 2nd place man Steven Craig very quickly. By the start of the last lap Jack had just about caught the back of Steven Craig and nearly grabbed 2nd on the last 2 corners. But some good defending by Craig meant Jack would have to settle for 3rd in a race where if the first couple of laps hadn’t been so poor things might have been very different.
