Three Sisters Gold Cup, - 26th May 2005

Gold Cup 2005

The weather was great, the grid was big and the track was in great condition providing some great racing at Three Sisters on the 26th June.

Heat 1 – Starting 13th on the grid Jack got a poor start dropping a couple of positions, but managed to regain a few positions battling his way to 9th, a relatively average start to the weekend.

Heat 2 – On pole for this one and Jack made a superb start pulling nearly half a straight length over the rest of the field by lap 2, but after a big incident at Lunar bend between two other drivers, the race was red flagged and a restart was needed and unlucky for Jack the 2nd start was no where near as good, as Jacks engine bogged down coming up to the start line and a stream of karts swept passed him in to the first corner, but a creditable drive brought him back up to the lead just in front of Danny Lloyd who in turn repassed Jack up the straight with Lloyd just piping Jack for the win.

Heat 3 – Starting 23rd on the grid for the final heat of the day and Jack managed to get a good start coming out of the first corner in 19th, from then on Jack managed to make his way up through the field eventually finishing 10th and taking the fastest lap of the weekend.

A final – After 3 average heats Jack ended up 6th on the grid out of the 28 drivers for the 2005 Junior Rotax Max gold cup final and what a final it turned out too be! Jack made a good start and straight away took up 5th place and later round the lap took 4th from Danny Cammish and quickly tagged on too the back of the front 3 making it a four way battle for the win as the four of them made a gap between them an the rest of the field. The racing was fast and furious with the lead changing several times but as they crossed the line for the last lap Danny Lloyd was in the lead followed closely from Greg Harper, Jack Whelan and Jack Hawksworth but as they came towards the last corner Whelan tried to overtake Harper for 2nd place but Harper defended and Hawksworth took full advantage of the situation and squeezed passed Whelan in to lunar for the final podium position, a mere half a second separated the top 4 by the flag, With Lloyd winning Harper 2nd, Hawksworth 3rd, Whelan 4th and Nico Angelides rounding out the top 5 in a distant 5th position.

“At the end of the day I was beaten by 2 very good drivers and i've got too congratulate them on that, Danny drove a superb race so well done too him, it was a great battle and i'm happy to be in the top 3.

A big thanks to HRS motorsport and my mechanic Brian for giving me a great setup and my family for supporting me”
