WSK KZ2 Championships, Round 3 - Sarno, Italy
17th/20th July 2008

Testing – After the disappointment of being taken out at the European championships two weeks ago I was very determined to make amends with a good result at the WSK. Things didn’t go to plan in testing though as I had many problems which saw me right down at the bottom of the time sheets 1.2 seconds of the pace. Many changes need to be made.
Qualifying – Once again we struggled in qualifying but not quite as badly as testing I qualified 32nd out of the 60 drivers but was hoping for a lot better in the races.
Heat 1 – We made a few changes for heat 1 and suddenly we were quick finding the best part of a second to close right up to the top guys. I started 15th but didn’t get a good start and dropped to 17th. It was a good job we were quick though as I was able to slice back up the field to finish a solid 8th.
Heat 2 – I started 16th for heat 2 and was hoping for more of the same in this heat. It worked out well I got a good start and was able to make my way through pretty quickly despite coming very close to crashing when Piccini seized directly in front of me I hit his back wheel and was on 2 wheels at 150 kph! Hairy stuff but fortunately I managed to save it and then come home in another good 8th position.
Heat 3 – I started once again 16th for the final heat of the day. I got a good start and was into 10th after the first lap with kart feeling very good. But on the second lap I made a schoolboy error out of the hairpin and ran wide on to the dirt and span round dropping me way back to down the order to last half a lap down. I finished a disappointing 23rd.
Pre-Final – I had to change my Barrel for the pre final due to a marks on the piston and barrel. This was a bad decision as the engine lost all of its power through the entire rev range. I started 22nd and drove a defensive race and was lucky to finish 19th.
Final - We cleaned the other Barrel up and stuck it back on for the final and kept our fingers crossed that it wouldn’t blow up. The performance was much better I was able to overtake and make progress with lap times that should have put me inside the top 5 had I started near the front. I eventually came through to finish 11th which was a good result bearing in mind we had to start from 19th. If we had started nearer the front then for sure we would have been top 5 but never the less a great job from the team and thanks to everybody who helped me over the weekend.
Cheers guys.
